Encore! Tampa Pursues LEED® ND: Plan Gold Certification to Rank Third in Florida and Among 10 Neighborhoods in the U.S.
TAMPA, FL. – (May 18, 2016) – Reed, Encore!’s 7-story, 158-unit senior living project, has recently been certified with LEED® Silver status. The structure was designed by the architectural and interior design team led by Baker Barrios Architects and is located in the heart of Tampa’s Encore! district.
Encore!, a 40-acre mixed-use redevelopment district in Downtown Tampa, is currently pursuing a LEED® ND: Plan Gold classification. If awarded, Encore! would rank as the third LEED® ND: Plan Gold project in the State of Florida and among 10 registered ND: Plan Gold certified master-planned neighborhoods in the U.S.
The community will be registered under the NDv4 Plan which recognizes the defining sustainable neighborhood characteristics of the site including Smart Locations and Linkages, Neighborhood Pattern and Design, Green Infrastructure and Buildings, Innovation, and Regional Priority.
“Perry Harvey Sr. Park to the west of Encore! was renovated and re-opened in April,” said Rob Ledford, Managing Principal of Baker Barrios Architects. “We are in the process of working with the Tampa Housing Authority, City of Tampa Parks and Recreation, and Banc of America to include the park as increased parkland and green space among the Encore! boundary which would help to reduce the heat island effect.” As part of this initiative, the Trane District Cooling Plant block would also be incorporated.
Administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), is an internally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. LEED Certification is based on performance in five key areas of human environmental health, including sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. There are four possible levels of certification including certified, silver, gold and platinum.
