Helming this Center of Excellence are Jeff Sadd & Chris Powers, Baker Barrios principals responsible for designing many of Central Florida’s leading medical centers.
My career has focused on a variety of projects in the healthcare, corporate, and educational sectors, with a large bulk of my projects being internationally based. I’m on the leading edge of new modes of thinking, incorporating sustainable design, digital design, and resiliency principles into our work.
While staying mainly within the healthcare sector during the last 17 years, beginning with my work on the Rush University Medical Center, I have continually extended and expanded his influence with dynamic projects like the University of Virginia Hospital Expansion and the University of Chicago Center for Cancer Care. I continue to be a leading voice in the industry by participating on several academic juries throughout the year, and our work is being featured in publications such as Architectural Record, Healthcare Design, and Health Facilities Management.

Chris Powers brings over three decades of invaluable experience to the realm of healthcare architecture and design. Currently serving as the Associate Principal and Regional Director of Healthcare at Baker Barrios Architects in Nashville, Tennessee, Chris spearheads the expansion of the healthcare practice and team across the firm’s four offices, while also focusing on growing the Nashville branch. With a Bachelor of Architecture from Mississippi State University and additional studies at Escola Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona, Chris’ commitment to his craft is evident.
His extensive career includes serving as the senior director of design and construction for HCA Healthcare for 12 years, where he mentored and led teams of architects and designers on projects across 23 states. His multifaceted background has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of healthcare architecture, project management, and leadership, making him a trusted authority in the field.
